Who knew my kindergarten report card would predict so much about the person I’ve grown to be: I was doing well, it said. I was polite with my classmates and arrived on time, but I disrupted class. I asked the question “why” too much. Today, not much has changed. If you present me with a problem, I can’t help but wonder how it came about. What factors contribute to its persistence, and how can I resolve them? For me, the answer to that last question almost always lies in design. In my practice, I strive to democratize information and make difficult or complex concepts approachable, and I always begin by asking a simple question: “Why?”.
